MEMBERSHIP IN LQHA 

LQHA's show year is from January 1 through December 31.

In the Open Division, for points to count, membership in the LQHA should be the same as the recorded owner(s) with AQHA. There are no joint memberships. If AQHA papers show more than one person owning a horse then all owners must be LQHA members. In the Amateur and Youth Divisions, for points to count, membership in LQHA is required for the exhibitor only; however, all AQHA rules regarding eligibility for exhibition must be followed.

POINT SYSTEM & AWARDS To be eligible for a year end award in the Open, Youth, or Amateur divisions a person must be a member of the LQHA and show in at least one circuit approved by LQHA and held within the state. If membership dues are paid by March 1 or the annual convention, whichever is later, all points earned during the current LQHA show year will be counted towards Year-To-Date points. Anyone joining LQHA after the annual awards banquet, will only be eligible to accumulate points at LQHA-approved shows held after payment of membership dues. ALL AROUND AWARDS At the discretion of the Board of Directors, awards will be given as follows: NOTE: Exhibitor must be an LQHA member in order to win High Point All Around Awards in any division. a. Overall High Point Halter Stallion – stallion with the highest number of points in its division regardless of age (Open/Amateur Division) b. Overall High Point Halter Mare – mare with the highest number of points in its division regardless of age (Open/Amateur/Youth) c. Overall High Point Halter Gelding – gelding with the highest number of points in its division regardless of age (Open/Amateur/Youth) d. High Point All-Around – horse/rider combination with the highest number of points in its division; must have competed in halter and at least two (2) performance categories listed in the AQHA Official Handbook with a minimum of ten (10) points in the lowest category. (Open/Amateur/Youth 13 & Under & Youth 14 & Over) e. Reserve All-Around – horse/rider combination with the second highest number of points in its division; must have competed in halter and at least two (2) performance categories listed in the AQHA Official Handbook with a minimum of ten (10) points in the lowest category. (Open/Amateur/Youth 13 & Under & Youth 14 & over) f. High Point Individual – horse/exhibitor with the greatest number of points in a class with a minimum of ten (10) points in the class (Amateur, Novice Amateur, Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14 & Over and Novice Youth) (Open points are on the horse) g. Reserve Point Individual – horse/exhibitor with the second highest number of points in a class (Amateur, Novice Amateur, Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14 & Over, Novice Youth) (Open points are on the horse) h. Novice Performance High Point - horse/rider combination with the highest number of points in its division; must have competed in at least two (2) performance categories listed in the AQHA Official Handbook (Novice Amateur and Novice Youth) i. Novice Amateur Rookie of the Year – horse/rider combination with the highest number of points j. Novice Youth Rookie of the Year – horse/rider combination with the highest number of points in all Novice Youth events; exhibitor must be a first-year member (Novice Youth) NOT EVERY CLASS SHOWN IS ELIGIABLE FOR A YEAR END AWARD! CALL Sue Schneider if you have a question. 504-881-9385.  To be eligible for all-around honors, a horse in the open division, amateur in the amateur division, select amateur in the select amateur classes or youth in the youth division must compete in at least three AQHA-approved classes in their respective division – in three or more categories.

Any awards not claimed 90 days after the awards banquet will
become property of LQHA and the recipient relinquishes ownership of that award
